Greyhound Racing Betting Tips

If you are new to betting on greyhound racing or an old bettor who has fallen into bad habits, the last thing you should be doing is placing bigger bets than you can afford. For a start, greyhound racing is meant to be a fun night out - leave it to the professionals to bet large sums.

Bet in moderation. Study the sport, study each greyhound's quirks and charactistics until you feel reasonably happy that you know how many of them run. Many successful bettors watch many races without having a bet.

Firstly, they can watch most of the runners without being distracted by what they have had a bet on. It's hard to take your eyes off a particular greyhound if he's carrying your hard earned money on his back!

You will soon learn the ropes but, as a strict rule, try to limit your bets, leave a few races alone and wait for a really worthwhile punting proposition comes along. It's fun having a bet but it's even more fun when you go home winning.

There is obviously no guaranteed way of finding winners, but for a newcomer to greyhound racing, the task must seem quite intimidating. Six greyhounds may all seem the same to the novice but there are many factors to take into consideration before risking any hard earned money.

Over the years, there have been all sorts of so called fail-proof winning statistical systems but the only way one can realistically hope to show a profit in greyhound racing is to study each and every greyhound's race card in any given race.

However, there are four main points to base any selection on. These are: class, current form, early speed and trap draw. These points will guide you through selecting a greyhound and, hopefully, when you have practiced the formula you will be a winning greyhound racing bettor or, at least, one that doesn't leave the mortgage money behind every time you visit your local greyhound track.

Remember, though, greyhounds are not machines and, like their human counterparts, do have the occasional off day. Some are more consistent than others, though, and you quickly learn which greyhounds and what types of races you are most likely to win money on.
